Family… Alex has just finished up a series on Sunday Mornings on the family. Parents often tell me that they have a hard time connecting with their teens. Family is so important in the life of a teenager and there is a new survey that supports that thought. The Associated Press and MTV (yes! MTV) took a survey of over 100 questions to 1,280 young people between the ages of 13-24 on the nature of happiness among America’s young people. Spending time with family was the top answer to that open-ended question, “What makes you happy?”

Nearly three-quarters of young people say their relationship with their parents makes them happy. “They’re my foundation,” says Kristiana St. John, 17, a high-school student from Queens in New York. “My mom tells me that even if I do something stupid, she’s still going to love me no matter what. Just knowing that makes me feel very happy and blessed.” From AP report.

As far as who is their hero almost half said parents. Moms were on top at 29% and dads close behind at 21%.

Parents, our kids are desperately seeking a relationship with us. They might not ever say it, but they crave our love, time, and attention. Let’s make sure we are spending time with them.
